ECE 210: Causality, Linearity, Time-Invariance, and BIBO Stability

System Presets

💡 Common Misconceptions:
  • Bounded vs Decaying: A step function $u(t)$ is bounded, but doesn't decay. Integrating it yields a ramp (unbounded).
  • Shift vs Advance: $f(t-2)$ is a delay (causal). $f(t+2)$ looks back in time? No, it needs future inputs!
  • Algebraically Simple ≠ Stable: $y(t) = t \cdot f(t)$ is simple but unstable.
  • $f(t) + 2$ is NOT linear: Linear means $f(t)=0 \implies y(t)=0$.
